A major fire broke out at a shoe factory in Sector 60 early morning on Monday. There was no casualty reported, but the factory security guard was injured and goods and property worth lakhs of rupees was gutted in the fire, said the police.
A fire department official said the department received a call about a fire at factory number B40 at 2.58am.
According to chief fire officer Muninder Kumar, seven fire tenders were sent to the spot. “It took around 40 minutes to douse the fire. The guard received minor injuries when a container full of inflammable shoe polish exploded. He was discharged from hospital after primary treatment.” Kumar said the cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, but added they suspected inflammable solutions used in shoe-making to have caught fire from a short circuit.
An official from the fire department said such factories need to install fire safety equipment. “We have ordered a probe to see if they had followed proper fire safety measures. If not, action will be taken against the factory owner,” he said.
